Maryam Rahmani, David Moran, and Sebastian Collen come together in a unique collaboration that bridges Persian classical music, experimental composition, and contemporary Western performance. Rooted in Maryam’s Iranian heritage and mastery of the Santur, the trio explores rich sonic landscapes shaped by David’s virtuosic cello performance and Seb’s conceptual compositions. All three artists are collaborators on ‘KAMAND’, Maryam’s upcoming album for Music In Exile, and now reunite live to reimagine their studio work through improvisation, electronic textures, and cross-cultural dialogue. Together, they blend tradition and innovation in a deeply poetic and genre-defying performance.

About Maryam Rahmani
Maryam Rahmani is an Iranian-born santur player now based in Adelaide. Her music draws deeply from Persian classical traditions and poetry, enriched by her studies in traditional instruments and rhythmic structures. Since moving to Australia, Maryam has expanded her practice through cross-genre collaborations, performing with ensembles such as the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and an Adelaide Baroque ensemble. Also, being part of residencies like, The Australian Art Orchestra Creative Music Intensive, and most recently, “Soundweaving” in Banff, have significantly influenced her approach—reshaping her connection to traditional roots and opening new pathways for collaboration.

About David Moran
David Moran is a cellist and doctoral candidate at Monash University whose work bridges virtuosic technique and contemporary music practices. He has performed with Opera Australia, the Lucerne Festival Contemporary Orchestra, and numerous ensembles worldwide. David’s musical curiosity spans a wide range of styles, with a focus on blending precision and experimentation.

Sebastian Collen is an Adelaide-based composer exploring new music for chamber ensembles. His work integrates extended techniques and electronics, inspired by visual arts and abstraction. Sebastian collaborates widely with choreographers and visual artists, using music to explore narratives around decoloniality and storytelling.
