After the success of his debut album ‘SLATLAND’, emerging saxophonist/composer Dean Kalaitzidis has been hard at work crafting a new and exciting project.
With an emphasis on narrative based story telling and lyrical melodicism, the latest iteration of the Dean Kalait group fuses the roles of improviser and composer to create a fluid and organically evolving set of music that strikes a delicate yet electric balance between the spontaneous and prepared. With diverse individual performance backgrounds and taking direct inspiration from the likes of the Wayne Shorter group and Andrea Keller’s Transients, each of the distinguished band members seamlessly mix elements of Jazz, Folk, Experimental and world music to create their unique sonic palate.
Having studied under the direct tutelage of Australian Jazz greats Julien Wilson, Andrea Keller and many more, Kalaitzidis pays tribute to the roots of Australian and American jazz as both a composer and improviser, while constantly striving forward and expanding his unique craft and style.
